A membrane switch is an operator interface between the user and a piece of equipment. A membrane switch uses momentary keys in which a closure is sensed by the printed circuit board assembly in the equipment. It is typically produced using heat stabilized polyester as a base material with conductive inks applied for circuitry. Various layers of adhesive and conductive layers are assembled and the switch is usually covered with a graphic overlay. Standard types of a membrane switches include a non-tactile type in which the two conductive layers are separated by air, and the tactile type in which a dome element is used to close the circuit.
Standard membrane switch designs are internally vented to maintain an environmental seal.

Features

Indicator Lights
LED's can be embedded in the membrane switch. The LED can be mounted behind a clear window, making the natural color of the LED visible, or a color tinted window may be provided. Dead front effects are possible, allowing the light to be visible only when illuminated.

Chemical and Weather Resistant
Our membrane switches are constructed of multiple layers of polyester materials assembled with permanent acrylic adhesives. The switch construction is internally vented maintain an environmental seal.

ESD/EMI/RFI Shielding
We can provide several shield methods to resolve your particular problem. We offer conductive screen printed or die cut shielding laminates. Materials are available with or without adhesive backing.

Termination
The flexible tail on a membrane switch can be teminated with:

  • No Connector for insertion into ZIF connector
  • FCI (Berg) Connector
  • Amp Connector
  • Solder tabs

  • Acceptable Artwork File Type

AutoCad (.dwg, .dxf), Corel Draw (.cdr), Adobe Illustrator (.ai)
